Prince Harry has revealed that a heated argument with Meghan Markle became a turning point in his life, prompting him to begin therapy. The Duke of Sussex, 40, shared the personal story in his memoir Spare, released in early 2023.

An argument that changed everything

In the book, Harry describes one night when tensions between him and Meghan escalated. He admitted that he overreacted, saying he felt “disproportionately angry” during the exchange. The incident, he wrote, left the room feeling still and tense.

Meghan, remaining calm, told him she would not tolerate being spoken to with disrespect. She asked him where that behavior came from, and Harry reflected that he had seen similar patterns growing up. Her words, he said, made him think deeply about his own reactions.

Therapy became the next step

The confrontation made Harry realize that he needed help to better understand himself. Meghan encouraged him to try therapy again after earlier attempts had failed. “She was clear that she wasn’t going to raise children in an atmosphere of anger or disrespect,” he recalled.

Following her advice, Harry returned to therapy, a decision he has since described as life-changing. Speaking at the Masters of Scale Summit in 2022, he said that counseling helped him see life differently, giving him new confidence and a greater sense of self-worth.
