😡💔 “THIS IS MY HOUSE! IF YOU CAN’T SHOW ME SOME RESPECT, GET OUT!” My 39-Year-Old Son Shouted After Sl@pping Me Across The Face For Refusing To Give Him Another $400,000. His Wife Watched From The Sofa, Then Coldly Added, “YOU OWE MY HUSBAND AN APOLOGY!” I Didn’t Argue. I Just Picked Up My Purse, Turned To My Son, And Quietly Asked, “ARE YOU SURE THIS HOUSE IS YOURS?” He Laughed Right In My Face. But By The Next Morning, He Wasn’t Laughing Anymore… 😨

Part 2 of 3

He paced across my living room.

“Dad would’ve helped me.”

I felt a familiar ache.

“Your father would’ve expected you to repay the help you’d already received.”

Brandon stopped pacing.

“This is about the house, isn’t it?”

“Yes.”

“You can’t take my daughter’s home away.”

“I’m not taking away something you own. I’m ending an arrangement I paid for.”

He stared at me.

Then he said something that made my stomach tighten.

“You know, if you’d just signed the deed over when I asked, none of this would be happening.”

I looked at him carefully.

“When you asked?”

He froze.

I’d never agreed to transfer the deed.

But apparently, Brandon had been expecting me to.

And suddenly, I wondered what he’d been telling Amber all these years.

PART 2 — THE DOCUMENT HE NEVER WANTED HIS WIFE TO SEE

Amber appeared at my front door the following afternoon.

She wasn’t wearing her usual expensive jewelry. Her hair was tied back, and she looked as though she hadn’t slept.

“Can we talk?”

I hesitated before inviting her inside.

She sat on the edge of my sofa.

“Brandon says you’re trying to take our house.”

“The house belongs to my company.”

She looked confused.

“He told me it was a family arrangement.”

“It is. I purchased it so you could live there while you became financially stable.”

“But he said it would eventually be ours.”

I studied her.

“Did he tell you I’d promised that?”

She nodded.

“He said you were waiting until everything was settled.”

“Settled how?”

She twisted her wedding ring.

“He wanted you to put the deed in his name.”

There it was.

Brandon hadn’t forgotten who owned the mansion.

He knew.

And he’d been telling his wife a different story.

I went into William’s study and returned with copies of the property records.

Amber read them slowly.

“You’ve paid the property taxes all these years?”

“Yes.”

“And the insurance?”

“Yes.”

She stared at the documents.

“Brandon told me the company was just a technicality.”

“It’s the legal owner.”

She lowered the papers.

For the first time, her certainty seemed to disappear.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I thought you knew.”

We sat quietly for a moment.

Then I asked the question that had troubled me since the birthday dinner.

“Amber, why did you tell me to apologize after Brandon hit me?”

She looked down.

“He was furious.”

“So was I.”

“I know.”

“Did you believe I’d done something that justified it?”

“No.”

“Then why defend him?”

Her eyes filled.

“Because I knew if you apologized, he’d calm down.”

I looked at her.

For years, I’d done exactly the same thing.

I’d paid bills, overlooked insults, and surrendered my own boundaries because keeping Brandon happy seemed easier than facing his anger.

“Amber, that’s how we got here.”

She wiped her cheeks.

“I didn’t mean for him to hurt you.”

“I know. But afterward, you acted as though I was responsible.”

“I’m sorry.”

I thanked her without pretending everything was fixed.

Before she left, she asked whether there was anything they could do to keep living in River Oaks.

“You and Brandon need a home you can afford,” I said. “This arrangement isn’t helping either of you become independent.”

“Sophie loves that house.”

“I know. I love Sophie too. That’s why I want the move handled carefully.”

Amber looked at the property records once more.

“He knew you still owned it.”

“Yes.”

She nodded slowly.

“I think I need to ask my husband some questions.”

The next morning, Brandon called.

“What did you tell Amber?”

“The truth.”

“She’s questioning everything now!”

“Then answer her questions.”

“You’ve got some nerve, turning my own wife against me.”

“I didn’t tell her anything that wasn’t supported by the documents.”

He went quiet.

Then his voice became cold.

“Dad would be ashamed of you.”

I gripped the phone.

For eleven years, I’d allowed Brandon to invoke William whenever he wanted something.

Not this time.

“Your father isn’t here to speak for himself. Stop using his memory to pressure me.”

I ended the call.

Over the following week, Elaine sent the proposed transition documents. Brandon refused to sign them and accused me of destroying his family.

I didn’t argue.

When he threatened to discard my belongings from the mansion, Elaine advised arranging a safe return.

Instead, Brandon appeared on my porch carrying three cardboard boxes.

“Here. You wanted your stuff.”

He pushed one box toward me with his shoe.

Inside were Christmas ornaments, dishes, and framed family photographs.

On top lay a picture of William holding Brandon on his first birthday.

The glass was intact, but seeing it in that box made my chest ache.

“These are photographs of your father,” I said.

“I know who he is.”

“Then remember he was more than someone who made money.”

Brandon’s expression changed.

For a moment, I thought he might apologize.

Instead, he looked toward my house.

“You could fix everything today.”

“How?”

“Withdraw the notice. Give us time. And maybe we can work something out about the investment.”

I held William’s photograph against my chest.

Even now, he was still asking for the money.

“Thank you for bringing my belongings,” I said.

He stared at me.

“That’s it?”

“Yes.”

He left angrily.

I carried the boxes inside and returned William’s photograph to the mantel.

Then I sat down and cried.

Not because I’d lost the argument.

Because I was finally accepting that I couldn’t purchase my son’s affection by making his life easier.

Elaine arranged a meeting the following week.

Brandon and Amber arrived together, although they barely spoke to each other.

Elaine reviewed the deed, the company’s ownership records, and the proposed transition agreement.

Brandon interrupted.

“We know what the paperwork says.”

“Then let’s discuss the move-out arrangements,” Elaine replied.

“My mother is doing this to humiliate me.”

I opened my notebook.

I’d written three sentences inside.

I love my son.

I am not giving him $400,000.

I am not continuing the free housing arrangement.

“Brandon, I’m not asking you to agree with my decision,” I said. “I’m asking you to make a plan for your family.”

He leaned forward.

“And if I refuse?”

Elaine answered calmly.

“Then we’ll address the matter through the appropriate legal procedures. We’d prefer to reach a voluntary agreement.”

Amber touched Brandon’s arm.

“We should at least look at apartments.”

He turned toward her.

“You’re taking her side now?”

“I’m trying to make sure Sophie has somewhere stable to live.”

He stared at his wife.

For once, she didn’t retreat.

“Brandon, we can’t afford this house. We never could.”

He looked toward me.

“You planned this together?”

“No,” Amber answered. “I finally read the paperwork.”

The meeting ended without an agreement.

But something had changed.

Amber was no longer willing to pretend the mansion belonged to them.

Over the next several weeks, she began searching for apartments.
