“You Let Me Believe Those Children Were Biologically Mine,” My Husband Said As The Clinic Records Trembled In His Hands. His Mistress Insisted She Had Only Wanted To Give Him The Family He Deserved. But Before Two Hundred Silent Guests, Her Confession Revealed That His Celebrated Heirs Were Actually His Cousin’s Children.

Part 2 of 3

“Someone could have fabricated these documents to embarrass us,” he insisted, although his trembling hands weakened the accusation.

Lauren might have preserved some credibility by demanding a private investigation and supervised testing. Instead, panic pushed her into a disastrous confession.

“I only did it because I loved you and knew how desperately you wanted children,” she cried.

Nathaniel turned toward her slowly, as though the words no longer belonged to a language he understood.

“What did you do because you loved me?” he asked.

Lauren admitted that waiting for a natural pregnancy had frightened her. Nathaniel constantly talked about heirs, while Margaret discussed the importance of Mercer blood at every family gathering. Lauren feared that if she failed to become pregnant immediately, Nathaniel would eventually abandon her exactly as he had abandoned me.

She approached Mason, offered enough money to resolve several gambling debts, and persuaded him to become a donor through the private clinic. Choosing someone biologically related to Nathaniel seemed ideal because any family resemblance would suppress suspicion. Having twins, she believed, would secure her place beside Nathaniel permanently.

“Mason and I never had a physical affair,” Lauren pleaded. “It was a clinical arrangement. I was trying to give you the family you wanted.”

“You let me believe those children were biologically mine,” Nathaniel replied, his voice breaking before the silent crowd.

“They are yours in every way that should matter,” Lauren argued. “You loved them before they were born.”

Both babies began crying in the afternoon heat. Margaret immediately summoned a trusted nanny and instructed her to take them inside, removing them from the spectacle created by the adults.

“Those children are innocent, and they will not be displayed as evidence in an adult scandal,” Margaret announced. “Whatever testing eventually establishes, they deserve protection rather than punishment.”

As the nanny carried them away, I entered through the covered walkway. Recognition spread through the crowd in widening whispers. Nathaniel stared at me, and his shock immediately turned into hostility.

“You arranged this entire performance because the divorce was not enough to satisfy you,” he shouted.

“Your decisions arranged everything happening here,” I replied. “The documents merely helped everyone understand those decisions.”

Lauren accused me of destroying her happiness because she had replaced me. Her words reminded me of our college years, when she borrowed my clothes, shared my apartment, and described me as the sister she had never possessed.

“If I only wanted revenge for the affair, I could have exposed you months ago,” I said. “I came because Nathaniel financed your private life with corporate money that partly belonged to other investors.”

I removed a blue audit folder from my briefcase. Several board members recognized the accounting firm’s emblem before Nathaniel stepped toward the stairs.

“Do not open that folder in front of these people,” he warned.

“Many of these people invested in Mercer Aeronautics,” I answered. “They have considerably more right to the truth than you ever gave me.”

Part 4: The Financial Structure Behind the Perfect Family

I avoided discussing the affair, our fertility struggles, or the humiliation Nathaniel had attempted to inflict during the divorce. Emotional accusations would have allowed him to dismiss me as a jealous former wife. Verified financial records gave him nowhere to hide.

I described a consulting company with no employees, office, registered experts, or completed contracts. Over eighteen months, Mercer Aeronautics transferred more than nine hundred thousand dollars into that entity. The money subsequently paid Lauren’s living expenses.

Other transactions covered designer jewelry, luxury vacations, private flights, interior renovations, and every invoice from the Santa Fe clinic. Nathaniel approved the payments through his executive credentials while describing them as expenses related to aerospace research.

One board adviser stood and confronted him.

“Did you authorize corporate funds to pay this woman’s personal and medical expenses?”

“They were temporary advances connected to deferred executive compensation,” Nathaniel answered. “The classifications can be corrected without causing permanent damage.”

I presented authenticated authorization logs demonstrating that he had divided large expenses among multiple subsidiaries, apparently hoping auditors would never combine the amounts.

“Changing an accounting label does not erase deliberate concealment,” I explained. “Every transaction contains Nathaniel’s authorization, and every dollar came from restricted operating capital.”

A major investor immediately called his legal department. Two board members instructed company counsel to secure the servers and suspend Nathaniel’s access before any records could be altered. Guests who had expected a joyful celebration began leaving as the family scandal became a corporate collapse.

Nathaniel came down from the stage and grabbed my forearm, demanding that I stop destroying everything he had built. I pulled away and moved beyond his reach.

“Mercer Aeronautics was almost insolvent when we met,” I reminded him. “You could not finance another payroll cycle. I rebuilt the projections, negotiated institutional funding, and risked my inheritance after every bank rejected you.”

“My leadership created the company,” he shouted. “Your spreadsheets only supported my vision.”

A retired investor who remembered those difficult years released a humorless laugh.

“A vision without financial discipline is merely an expensive fantasy,” I replied. “You mistook my loyalty for an unlimited resource and treated the company like your personal checking account.”

After reviewing several pages of the audit, Margaret faced her son.

“Did corporate money finance the treatment Lauren used to deceive you?”

Nathaniel said nothing because either answer would condemn him. If he admitted knowing about Mason, he would expose his involvement in the reproductive deception. If he denied knowing, he would confirm that he had misappropriated corporate money without understanding what he was purchasing.

Lauren insisted that Nathaniel knew nothing about the donor. Margaret looked at her coldly.

“His ignorance about Mason does not excuse his financial misconduct, and your dishonesty does not make him innocent.”

Within twenty minutes, the reception had completely dissolved. By that evening, the board of Mercer Aeronautics had convened an emergency meeting and suspended Nathaniel from every executive responsibility. Independent counsel secured his communications, corporate devices, and accounting credentials.

Two weeks later, investigators discovered additional unauthorized transactions unrelated to Lauren. Nathaniel had hidden personal debts, funded speculative investments, and redirected vendor rebates into accounts under his control.

The board permanently removed him as chief executive. Major investors froze pending commitments, while federal and state authorities investigated possible securities fraud, embezzlement, and deliberate falsification of corporate records.

The empire Nathaniel claimed to have built alone began collapsing beneath documents carrying his signature.

Part 5: Two Innocent Children

Lauren remained with Nathaniel only until his luxurious lifestyle disappeared. At first, she claimed that emotional trauma required temporary distance. She then emptied the personal account he had allowed her to access and left for Tampa with her mother. Afterward, she communicated exclusively through attorneys.

Mason reacted differently when the Mercer family’s legal representatives confronted him. He signed a statement admitting that Lauren had paid him to provide genetic material and maintain complete secrecy. A court-authorized paternity test later confirmed that he was the biological father of both infants.
