I Thought I Had Just Witnessed Something Impossible, And Soon, The Truth About Why My Loyal Dog Had Become So Frightened Began To Unfold…

Part 2 of 3

She studied Titan’s hopeful expression.

“I told him that already, but he keeps looking at the kitchen.”

For the first time in years, I heard my security director laugh openly.

Yet beneath that unfamiliar warmth, a troubling question remained.

If Titan’s injuries had been deliberately inflicted, who had benefited from making my most loyal companion appear dangerous?

Part 3 — The Officer Titan Would Not Allow Near Lily

On the third afternoon, James and I were reviewing a cybersecurity contract in the estate library when Titan abruptly rose from his resting place.

His ears stiffened, and his attention fixed on the hallway.

Before either of us could identify the disturbance, he moved toward the central entrance hall.

James followed while I instructed the nearby guards to avoid startling him.

Rachel and Lily were standing beside a decorative table when we arrived.

Across from them stood Nolan Pierce, a senior security officer who had served on my protective detail for six years.

Nolan’s professional record appeared impeccable, and I’d trusted him with security assessments for several international business trips.

Lily was showing him a paper snowflake she’d made that morning.

Titan stopped between them, raised his head, and growled.

Nolan stepped backward, his expression immediately becoming defensive.

“Mr. Prescott, this animal is clearly unstable, and I strongly recommend removing him before he injures someone.”

I watched Titan carefully.

He wasn’t lunging indiscriminately or attempting to chase people around the hall.

Instead, he kept positioning himself between Nolan and Rachel’s daughter.

Rachel lifted Lily into her arms and moved farther away.

The child pointed toward Nolan’s leather gloves.

“That’s the bad smell, Mommy, because it smells like the stuff that made Titan’s eyes hurt.”

Nolan stared at her.

“I don’t know what she’s talking about, and we shouldn’t let a child’s imagination interfere with security procedures.”

Something about his response troubled me.

Lily had noticed details about Titan’s discomfort before our medical professionals established the full extent of his injuries.

I wasn’t going to treat her observation as proof, but I wasn’t going to ignore it either.

“Nolan, step away from the child and remain here while James reviews the situation,” I instructed.

He hesitated.

James asked Nolan to identify any substances or equipment he’d handled during his shift.

Nolan claimed his gloves were ordinary protective gear, but security staff noticed an unusual odor around his coat.

Rather than conduct an improvised search, James followed the company’s internal procedures and contacted the appropriate authorities.

Nolan was temporarily relieved of access to sensitive areas.

When investigators arrived, they recovered a small, concealed spray container from his outer clothing under the applicable search procedures.

The container was secured for forensic testing.

Nolan tried to leave before the investigators finished questioning him, but officers prevented his departure while clarifying his legal status and the immediate safety concerns.

Titan remained beside Rachel, still watching Nolan with unmistakable suspicion.

I placed a steady hand on the dog’s shoulder only after confirming that he was comfortable being touched.

For months, we’d interpreted his warnings as evidence of dangerous instability.

Now I was beginning to suspect he’d been reacting to a threat inside the very security organization charged with protecting us.

Part 4 — The Betrayal Hidden Inside My Security System

The laboratory’s preliminary examination identified a chemical irritant in the recovered container, although investigators emphasized that its precise composition and effects required further testing.

Veterinary specialists considered the substance consistent with some of Titan’s observed irritation.

James also uncovered discrepancies in the security logs.

Several recordings showed Nolan entering restricted corridors during periods when he had no assigned reason to be there.

Other footage suggested that Titan’s behavior became noticeably distressed following those visits.

The independent investigation eventually linked Nolan to repeated mistreatment of the dog.

Evidence indicated that the civilian K-9 trainer had also employed abusive methods, despite being contracted to provide safe behavioral assessment.

The trainer was referred to law enforcement for investigation.

But the animal cruelty was only part of a larger scheme.

A review of properly preserved corporate security records revealed unauthorized access to estate patrol schedules, building-control systems, and internal travel information.

Nolan had repeatedly attempted to obtain details about my private movements and the locations of protective personnel.

“Someone has been studying our vulnerabilities from the inside, Alexander, and the activity overlaps with the periods when Titan was being deliberately distressed,” James explained.

He believed the goal might have been to remove the dog from the estate’s protection arrangements before exploiting gaps in the remaining security system.

Our investigators reported the findings to federal authorities because of the potential threats to my safety and the company’s sensitive operations.

As more records were obtained through lawful investigative procedures, a financial connection emerged.

Nolan had received payments from an entity linked to my uncle, Victor Prescott.

Victor owned thirty percent of Prescott Defense Technologies and had helped establish the original business alongside my late father.

He was also the person who’d given me Titan as a puppy almost eleven years earlier, shortly after my graduation from West Point.

I could hardly believe what the documents suggested.

For two years, Victor had opposed my efforts to redirect our business away from questionable overseas weapons transactions toward transparent defensive technologies.

I had ended contracts involving unacceptable legal and ethical risks, expanded our cybersecurity division, and pursued properly reviewed satellite-monitoring programs.

Victor repeatedly accused me of abandoning the aggressive business model that had made our family wealthy.

But disagreements over strategy didn’t explain why money connected with his interests was reaching a compromised security officer.

When investigators questioned Nolan further, he admitted that Victor had promised him a senior security position and a substantial financial reward if a planned operation succeeded.

The documents also indicated that Nolan had been working to make Titan appear too unstable to remain on the property.

I thought about the animal I’d trusted through years of dangerous assignments.

He had tried to warn me, but I’d interpreted his suffering as a training problem.

Part 5 — The Uncle Who Wanted Me Removed

The investigation revealed a suspected conspiracy intended to compromise the estate’s security and place me in serious danger.

Investigators believed Victor expected to gain temporary corporate authority if I became incapacitated during an apparent internal security failure.

The scheme remained subject to independent legal scrutiny, but the evidence was sufficiently serious for federal authorities to intervene.

Victor was expected at the estate that evening for a previously scheduled business discussion.

I coordinated with the investigators and followed their instructions rather than attempting to confront him alone.

Rachel and Lily were moved to a secure family area, and Titan remained with his assigned veterinary handler.

When Victor arrived, he appeared completely unaware that Nolan had been removed from duty.
