Urinary tract infections, especially cystitis, are common and often painful. They tend to come back frequently and need quick treatment to prevent complications. Although antibiotics are commonly used, some natural remedies can also help ease symptoms. Here are seven home remedies to try before visiting a doctor.
Remedies for cystitis

Thyme tea
Thyme has antibacterial and antiviral effects. To make the tea, boil 25g of thyme in one liter of water, strain, and drink every four hours. It helps fight the bacteria causing the infection.
Medicated juice
Mix two aspirin tablets, one teaspoon of baking soda, and one teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of water. Drink this twice daily to help reduce pain.
Leek poultice
Leek poultices soothe and relax muscles. Cook 2–3 leeks, then sauté them in olive oil. Apply the warm poultice to your stomach under a towel for 15 minutes. You can alternate this with green clay poultices for added effect.
