New information has surfaced regarding the long-rumored bridesmaid dress incident between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, suggesting that earlier reports may have misunderstood a key detail.
Although it’s been seven years since Meghan’s wedding at St George’s Chapel, the supposed tension between her and Kate Middleton over a bridesmaid dress continues to draw attention.
At the time, media reports claimed there was a disagreement between Meghan and Kate about the dress worn by Princess Charlotte, Kate’s daughter. Meghan and Prince Harry later confirmed there had been an issue during their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The disagreement was also brought up in Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, where he included text messages between Meghan and Kate. He refuted the narrative that Meghan made Kate cry, stating it was actually the reverse.
Harry described how, just four days before the wedding, Kate messaged Meghan saying the custom-made French couture dresses needed to be altered. He claimed Kate was upset because Meghan didn’t respond right away.

Harry shared that “Meg didn’t reply to Kate straight away.” He explained that while Meghan was overwhelmed with countless wedding-related messages, her main focus at the time was handling the drama with her father. The next morning, Meghan texted Kate, letting her know that the tailor was ready and waiting.
“This wasn’t sufficient,” Harry noted.
According to him, Kate later expressed her frustration, saying: “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on a[t] home.”
Meghan apparently responded: “Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8am. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?”
But Kate reportedly disagreed and insisted: “No, all the dresses need to be remade.”
Harry wrote that Meghan then asked Kate if she realized what she was dealing with concerning her father. Kate replied that she was aware, but emphasized the dresses again, reminding Meghan: “And the wedding is in four days!”
To this, Meghan responded sharply: “Yes, Kate, I know…”
