I went to my mother’s house. Days later, once I had regained some strength, I left Eliza with my mom and went to find Bill.
I handed him an envelope. “This is the real DNA test. I took your toothbrush—just in case you hadn’t noticed.”
He ripped it open, his eyes darting over the page. “99.9%,” he murmured.

Bill’s eyes met mine, filled with regret. “Carol, I was wrong. I truly thought she wasn’t mine. But now that I know the truth, I want you both back.”
I clenched my fists. “You don’t deserve to be her father. You never even doubted Jessica’s lies. You never once thought about Eliza or me.”
His voice wavered. “Please. I’ll cut her out of my life. Just give me another chance.”
I took a deep breath and stepped back. “I’m filing for divorce. I want full custody.”
As I got into my car, I heard him call my name. But I didn’t look back. Eliza and I would be just fine.
