Houghton Hall, however, exudes a sense of continuous evolution and occupation, making it more than just a remnant of the past. One of the surprises the owners keep finding is an unopened package of Sunlight soaps. But not all finds are happy ones, like a forgotten closet full of moth-damaged fur jackets. And the laundry room is overflowing.
In addition, David converted a large, fire-damaged chamber in the north wing that had been his sports-loving grandfather’s gym into modern, art-deco-style living space.
At first, David intended to live there with Rose after they were married. But when their family grew, the room became too small for them, and it is now used as a guest house.
Decorated with polished, ginger-toned maple wood, the two-story, two-bedroom apartment has the grandeur of a luxury cruise liner from the 1920s. It is decorated with artifacts from the couple’s deco-inspired Houghton Collection, established in 2002, as well as art deco pieces from David’s London residence.
The interior of this apartment gleams as light bounces off marble, mirrors, and glass surfaces. The open-plan kitchen has views of a private garden with a swimming pool, and the walls are decorated with Cholmondeley’s Scandinavian art collection. “We are always here in the summer: it is so private,” Rose replied.
Rose likes living in Houghton Hall with her family. Because the staterooms are excessively formal, the family never uses them for personal purposes. They have, however, created a beautiful house in their private quarters, which is filled with both new and antique items, including items from their trips.

While some think the image features Rose Hanbury, others suggest it’s a photoshopped version of Kate Middleton, possibly using a profile from a different photo. Fans point to evidence they believe proves the image is fake, such as referencing Kate Middleton’s appearance at the 2016 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, where she wore a black pillbox hat.
However, Goff Photos — the agency responsible for capturing the images of William and Kate in the Range Rover — responded to the rumors. They reassured the public that the photos “have been cropped and lightened” but emphasized that “nothing has been doctored.” The speculations gained such traction that even Stephen Colbert addressed the controversy. In his recent comedy segment on national American TV, he jokingly commented on the supposed affair.
“Now there have been rumors of an affair between William and the Marching Band of Chicanery since 2019,” Colbert began. “According to tabloids back then, when Kate supposedly confronted him about it, he laughed it off saying there was nothing to it.
