However, touching a royal before they initiate contact is considered a breach of protocol, no matter how helpful the gesture might be.
This rule has been a tradition for a long time, originally set to maintain a respectful distance between royal family members and “commoners.”
Quite strict.
Typically, royals make contact through a handshake, though younger royals like William and Kate are known to occasionally offer a hug.
But this wasn’t the only awkward moment Camilla had on VE Day.

While the family were on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, it was alleged that William was playing a game of ‘guess the aircraft’ with his eldest son George, during the flypast.
“What is this, George?,” Kate reportedly said.
“Err that’s erm a…I can’t see it yet,” he responded.
The young prince later identified it as an Atlas aircraft.
It seems that William also tried to get Queen Camilla involved in the game, but apparently she isn’t as clued up as the Wales family.
“It’s the wrong answer,” he said to the Queen.
She allegedly responded: “Are we playing this still? I need to try harder.”
