Prince Harry also recounted the loss in his memoir Spare, describing how the couple grieved together after leaving the hospital. “A tiny package,” he wrote. “We ventured to a secret place known only to us. Beneath a broad banyan tree, as Meg mourned, I gently placed that tiny package into the earth with my hands.”

In conversation with Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble, the two discussed their experiences with postpartum preeclampsia—a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs soon after giving birth.

The Mayo Clinic defines postpartum preeclampsia as high blood pressure and protein in the urine that develops after delivery and can lead to complications like seizures if untreated.

Reflecting on that period, Meghan shared, “The world remains unaware of silent battles. Despite the quiet, you strive to be there for people, especially your children, amidst significant medical scares.”
