Authorities discovered the body of 2-year-old Dane Paulsen, who had been reported missing, on March 11 in Oregon’s Siletz River, approximately three miles from his family’s home.
Despite an extensive search effort, the outcome was heartbreaking—Dane was found deceased after being missing since March 1.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirmed, “Sadly, he was found deceased.” Officials added that investigators are working with the Lincoln County Medical Examiner’s Office to process the scene.
Dane’s body was discovered at around 11:13 a.m. by Juan Heredia, a volunteer diver from the Angels Recovery Dive Team, who was led to the location by a local river expert. This area had previously been examined by divers from the sheriff’s office.
“Our thoughts are with the family, who are enduring an unimaginable loss,” Sheriff Adam Shanks stated. “To honor their privacy during this profoundly difficult time, we urge both the public and the media to give them the space they need to grieve.”
Within the first 24 hours of the missing person report being filed, authorities, along with volunteers and multiple search and rescue teams, covered 382 acres and 283 miles in their efforts. The search also involved K9 units, drones, divers, and watercraft.
