Part 2 of 2
Why do cloves work?
Bedbugs hate strong smells, and cloves are packed with eugenol—an oil that keeps them away. While cloves won’t kill bedbugs, they make your space much less inviting for them.
How to use cloves:
- Clove sachets – Fill small cloth bags with whole cloves and place them under your mattress, in drawers, and other key spots.
- Essential oil spray – Mix a few drops of clove oil with water and spray it around areas where bedbugs might be hiding. Do this every 2–3 days.
Natural Defense Against Other Pests Too!

These natural remedies aren’t just for bedbugs. They work on other household pests too:
- Cockroaches & Ants – Sprinkle diatomaceous earth where they roam. Place clove sachets in cupboards.
- Fleas – Dust diatomaceous earth on pet bedding and around their favorite resting spots.
- Mosquitoes – Spray clove essential oil to naturally repel them.
Keep Bugs from Coming Back
Even after you’ve dealt with the bugs, prevention is key:
- Let your mattress and bedding air out often.
- Wash sheets in hot water (at least 60°C / 140°F).
- Vacuum regularly, especially in corners and crevices.
- After staying in hotels, inspect your luggage and clothes before bringing them home.
Final Thoughts
Diatomaceous earth and cloves are simple, safe, and effective ways to fight off bedbugs and other pests—without using harsh chemicals. They’re easy to use, non-toxic, and good for the planet too.
Why not give these natural solutions a try and enjoy a cleaner, pest-free home?
