On July 9, Harry’s chief of staff Meredith Maines and King Charles’s communications secretary Tobyn Andreae met privately in London. According to the Daily Mail, this informal meeting—described as involving “casual drinks”—opened a long-closed line of communication.
“There’s a long road ahead,” a source noted, “but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.”
Still, trust remains a major issue. Schofield expressed skepticism over the recent developments, suggesting the leak about the meeting may have come from the Sussexes themselves.
“I do believe the Sussexes leaked this story, which goes to prove they can’t be trusted,” she claimed. “Why would the King risk anything by meeting with Harry or Meghan, and have them, or their friends, discuss what happened at that meeting?”
However, The Telegraph offered a contrasting view, reporting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly “frustrated” about the leak and did not intend for the meeting to become public knowledge.
