Despite the positive reception in Ukraine, Prince Harry’s visit has sparked backlash in the UK, especially amid his ongoing legal dispute over security protection.

Piers Morgan, who has long criticized both Harry and Meghan Markle, took to X to mock the prince. He wrote: “So, Hypocrite Harry flies straight from a British court where he is suing for more protection in UK because it’s too dangerous for him… to a warzone in Ukraine. He really is as dumb as a rock.”

Why did Prince Harry lose his security?

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as working royals in early 2020, one major consequence was the loss of their entitlement to publicly funded police protection in the UK.

Now living in California with their two children, Harry and Meghan no longer receive the same level of security they once did as senior members of the Royal Family. By stepping away from royal duties, Harry gave up the right to blanket protection from the British police. Instead, any security needs in the UK would be assessed individually—on a “bespoke, case-by-case” basis.

However, Prince Harry has strongly opposed this approach. He has expressed concern that his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, cannot “feel at home” or “safe” in the UK without formal police protection in place.

Earlier this week, his lawyer Shaheed Fatima told the court:
“One mustn’t forget the human dimension to this case. There is a person sitting behind me whose safety, whose security and whose life is at stake.

There’s a person sitting behind me who’s been told he’s getting a special bespoke process when he knows and has experienced a process that is manifestly inferior.”

Harry’s legal battle over security continues, as he seeks the right to pay for police protection when visiting the UK.

His visit comes at a sensitive time, as the United States is currently working to negotiate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

That said, the process hasn’t been going all that smoothly…

Last month, a heated and unexpected verbal exchange between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former President Donald Trump—joined by his vice president JD Vance in the Oval Office—caused a stir across social media platforms.

Trump, who has previously taken aim at Prince Harry—particularly over the controversy surrounding his U.S. visa—may not have appreciated Harry’s recent gesture of support toward Ukraine.

Royal expert Richard Palmer told GB News: “I’m sure it will not go down with some in the Trump camp. It is a public show of support for Zelensky and Ukraine. So that may make life a little less comfortable for him in the US when he gets back.”
