I Was About to Stop Her—Until She Pointed Straight at My Mother and Cried, “Grandma Knows What Really Happened to Mommy!” My Bride Turned Pale, and My Mother Rushed Forward to Silence Her. At That Moment, I Realized the Two Women I Trusted Most Were Hiding a Terrible Secret About My Missing Ex-Wife…

Part 2 of 3

She brought documents, explained investment options, and praised my mother’s experience.

Natalie never trusted her.

One evening, I overheard Natalie say, “Graham, please don’t sign anything until someone outside your mother’s circle reviews it.”

I accused her of creating unnecessary tension.

It was one of the last conversations we had before she disappeared.

Standing in that ballroom, I finally understood why Harper’s accusations mattered.

Perhaps Natalie hadn’t left because she wanted money.

Perhaps she had been trying to protect us from losing it.

The Envelope My Daughter Refused to Release

Harper opened her envelope again.

Inside were several photographs, two letters, and a small flash drive.

“Mommy said I should give these to you if I ever found you.”

My mother suddenly reached toward the envelope.

“Harper, give that to me.”

I moved between them.

“Don’t touch it.”

Diane stopped.

The guests were watching silently.

I asked the wedding coordinator to find a quiet room and help Harper get some water.

Then I turned toward my daughter.

“Would you feel safer if we talked somewhere private?”

She shook her head.

“I want everyone to know Mommy didn’t leave because she was bad.”

Her words broke my heart.

For almost two years, my little girl had been carrying the burden of defending her mother.

I unfolded the first letter.

It was written in Natalie’s familiar handwriting.

She explained that someone had accessed her email account and sent messages without her permission.

She had tried repeatedly to contact me, but every attempt seemed to fail.

Then she discovered that the address she had been given for my temporary apartment was incorrect.

The letter ended with a sentence I read three times.

Graham, I never wanted our daughter to grow up believing her father didn’t love her.

I pressed the page against my chest.

A Wedding Guest Recognized the Truth

A woman near the second row stood up.

Her name was Meredith Sloan, an accountant who had worked with my grandfather for years.

“Graham, I think there’s something you should know.”

My mother turned sharply.

“Meredith, this is a private family matter.”

Meredith ignored her.

“Your grandfather asked me to review several transactions before he passed away. I noticed unusual authorization changes on the family accounts.”

Vanessa looked toward the exit.

Meredith continued.

“Your mother told me you had approved everything personally, but I never received confirmation from you.”

I stared at Diane.

“What changes?”

“Transfers of authority over your inherited shares. The documents were prepared through the office where Vanessa worked.”

A low murmur spread through the ballroom.

Vanessa finally spoke.

“Those documents were completely legitimate.”

Meredith nodded slowly.

“Then an independent review should settle everything.”

Vanessa said nothing.

For the first time, I began to understand that my failed marriage and the business decisions I’d made afterward might not have been separate events.

The Secret Behind My Missing Wife

I asked Harper where Natalie was now.

Her expression changed.

“Mommy’s waiting outside.”

My heart began racing.

“Outside the hotel?”

She nodded.

“She was scared to come in. She said you might be angry.”

I looked toward the entrance.

“Why would she think that?”

Harper lowered her voice.

“Because Grandma showed her pictures of you and Vanessa. She told Mommy you were happier without us.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Diane covered her face.

“Graham, I only wanted you to move forward.”

“By keeping my wife and daughter away from me?”

“Your marriage was falling apart!”

“Then you should have let us decide what happened to it.”

Vanessa suddenly spoke.

“Your mother didn’t do everything alone.”

The words escaped before she could stop them.

Everyone turned toward her.

Diane stared at Vanessa.

“Don’t say another word.”

But it was too late.

The Bride Who Finally Told the Truth

Vanessa looked at me with tears in her eyes.

“I didn’t expect things to go this far.”

I felt an unfamiliar distance between us.

“What did you expect?”

She swallowed.

“Your mother said Natalie was going to convince you to withdraw from the investment plan. She believed your family would lose control of the business.”

“So you helped her?”

Vanessa looked down.

“I helped arrange some of the communications. I thought your marriage was already over.”

I stared at her.

“Did you send the messages from Natalie’s account?”

She hesitated.

Then she nodded.

My chest tightened.

“And the messages I received saying Natalie wanted nothing to do with me?”

“Some of those were prepared by your mother.”

Diane began crying.

“I did it because I thought I knew what was best for you.”

I shook my head.

“You didn’t protect me. You took away my chance to know the truth.”

Vanessa reached toward me.

“Graham, I genuinely care about you.”

I stepped back.

“You let me grieve a family I hadn’t actually lost.”
