I stayed with him until his last breath. And his children threw me out as if I were a stranger.

Part 2 of 2

Days later, his children came. The eldest daughter stood in the doorway, face unreadable.

— Dad’s gone. You’re no longer relevant. You have one week to leave.

I couldn’t speak. That house held every piece of our life. The books I read aloud. The flowers we’d planted. His chipped mug I saved for tea. My favorite cup, cracked and mended by his hands. They told me to walk away — to shut the door on a life I had poured myself into.

I found a small room to rent. Started cleaning houses — not for the money, but to feel useful. To stay sane. The hardest part wasn’t the loneliness.

It was feeling like I had been erased.

As if I never existed. As if I had only ever been a shadow in someone else’s story. And yet, once, I had been the light.

But I did exist. I was there. I held his hand when it mattered most.

The world measures worth through paper, names, bloodlines, wills. But there are other truths: love. Care. Loyalty. These don’t show up in legal files. And if just one of them, standing at his grave, had looked at me — really seen me — as the one who stayed until the end… maybe things would have been different.

So let everyone remember this: what counts most isn’t always written. What matters is who stayed. Who showed up. Who remained when everything was breaking.

That’s family.

I hold no anger.

I live with the memory.

Felipe said: Thank you, my love.

And in those words… there is everything.
