“Stay with me. Tell me how far along you are.”

Camryn struggled to answer.

“Six months. Three babies.”

Something changed in his eyes.

He turned toward the hotel entrance.

“Bring a vehicle immediately.”

Within minutes, she was sitting inside a security vehicle while the stranger remained beside her.

“You’re going to be all right,” he told her.

“Who are you?”

“My name is Rowan Mercer.”

At the hospital, doctors surrounded her.

Machines beeped.

Nurses moved quickly.

Camryn repeated the same question over and over again.

“Are my babies safe?”

Finally, a physician smiled.

“All three heartbeats are strong.”

Camryn burst into tears.

The next morning, she opened her eyes and saw Rowan sitting quietly by the window.

Two untouched cups of coffee stood on the table.

“You stayed?” she whispered.

He nodded.

“Years ago, I lost someone I loved because I arrived too late. I promised myself I would never let that happen again.”

Before leaving, he placed a business card beside her bed.

Rowan Mercer.

Mercer Holdings.

The name meant nothing to her then.

Soon, it would mean everything.

Learning How to Begin Again

A few days later, Camryn moved into a small house outside the city with the help of her longtime friend, Delia Vaughn.

The house was modest.

The furniture was old.

But it was peaceful.

That night, Camryn searched Rowan’s name online.

The headlines appeared immediately.

“Real Estate Investor Rowan Mercer Returns to Public Life.”

“Entrepreneur Establishes Foundation for Mothers and Children.”

“Seattle Business Leader Continues Private Charity Work.”

Suddenly, she understood the sadness she had seen in his eyes.

Meanwhile, Bennett and Bianca were celebrating their new life together.

Camryn avoided looking at the photographs.

But she could not avoid the comments.

Some people claimed she was exaggerating.

Others accused her of trying to gain sympathy.

She never responded.

She refused to turn her children into evidence.

Weeks passed.

One afternoon, she finally called Rowan.

He answered immediately.

“Camryn.”

She was surprised.

“You remembered my number?”

“I hoped you would call.”

His kindness frightened her.

Not because it felt false.

Because it felt real.

Over time, Rowan became part of her daily life.

He arranged medical appointments.

He brought meals prepared by his family’s chef.

He helped her move into a safer home.

Yet he never demanded anything.

When she asked why he cared so much, he smiled.

“Because everyone deserves someone who stays.”

Three Small Miracles

The babies arrived during a winter storm.

Their names were Hudson, Everett, and Mason.

They were tiny.

They were beautiful.

And they were fighters.

Standing outside the nursery window, Rowan wiped tears from his eyes.

He never tried to replace anyone.

He simply showed up every day.

He brought blankets, flowers, diapers, and endless encouragement.

Most importantly, he listened.
