His voice became unsteady.

“I want to know my sons.”

Camryn looked directly at him.

“Which sons? The ones you claimed were never yours?”

Nearby conversations stopped immediately.

Bennett lowered his head.

“I was confused.”

She shook her head.

“No. You were comfortable.”

Rowan stepped forward.

“She deserves peace. Please don’t take that away from her.”

Bennett stared at him.

“You aren’t their father.”

Rowan answered quietly.

“No. But I was there when they needed someone.”

Several weeks later, the truth became undeniable.

The children were Bennett’s sons.

They always had been.

But by then, it was too late.

A Home Worth Waiting For

Nearly two years after that rainy afternoon, Rowan asked Camryn to marry him.

There were no reporters.

No cameras.

Only three laughing boys running through the grass while evening sunlight filled the yard.

Rowan took her hand.

“You never needed anyone to rescue you. I simply hope you’ll let me walk beside you for the rest of the journey.”

Camryn smiled through tears.

“Yes.”

Their wedding took place in the mountains of Washington.

The ceremony was small.

The boys proudly carried flowers down the aisle.
